Updates! Future Scholarships, New Board Members & Administrator & More

Hello!

We just wanted to give y’all a quick update on all the great happenings at the Armida Huerta Adventure Fund. We got our 501c3 status this year! We are grateful to Mancos Valley Resources for being our fiscal sponsor for 2025. All donations through 2025 will still go through MVR.

Even more exciting, we brought on three new board members, all women of color. So now we have a total of six bright, amazing ladies on board of directors. We will announce their names and bios in the new year.

We also just hired an administrator, Wynn Jones, who is taking over admin duties from Lizzy Scully. You can reach Wynn via email by clicking here. Wynn will be answering all inquiries moving forward.

We have already given out two scholarships for Four Corners Guides courses for 2026, and we have scheduled two courses. One for Latina Outdoor Denver, and a Level 1 & 2 Packrafting course for LGBTQ+ folks September 19-20 in Moab, Utah. Click here for more information on the LGBTQ+ course. We’ll be accepting applications for this course March 1st.

We’ll be offering additional scholarship opportunities for cycling and packrafting courses around the country after our first Board of Directors retreat, which is in early February. So please check in with our News page March 1, 2026.

We are proud to have so far served 20 LGBTQ+ folks and women of color since our inception in 2024. We’ve run three courses through Four Corners Guides, offered three scholarships for other FCG courses, and we’ve provided scholarships to two women to attend an LGBTQ+ Expedition Course through the Alaska Packraft School.

All our courses are taught by queer folk or people of color.

Best wishes & happy holidays,

Lizzy Scully, owner Four Corners Guides & VP of AHAF Board of Directors
